Realities of SEO

I just received an email from a company who purchases SEO services from me and then re-sells them to their own clients. The email was not a very good one.

Basically, my client’s client was upset that the results of his SEO marketing were not very good. I returned the email saying I was sorry that the results were not to their satisfaction but…

1) They never once took any of my recommendations to make the site better for the search engines.
2) They never attempted to add pages to the website based on new keyword phrases.
3) They never attempted to write press releases for online distribution.
4) They continuously re-wrote over the changes that I made to improve their site.

The realities of SEO are that it takes anywhere from 3-8 months for a website to begin gaining ground in the search engines. The realities of SEO are also that changes must be made to the website, there’s no way around it. If you think that you can market your website as is, you’re in for a very long and disappointing marketing campaign.

I have gone as far as adding a “reality check” on my contract for my clients and have continuously stressed the importance for my outsource clients to do the same. I guess I’ll have to do it for them. Otherwise, I fear, their clients are just getting a raw deal. If they don’t know what they’re getting in to then they shouldn’t be playing the game.
